Our first students entered the College at the commencement of 2004 which marked the culmination of years of planning to establish a secondary school in Carrum Downs.
The College was funded with $16million which was spent on buildings, but most importantly, our College has the best teachers and the best curriculum that is based on our knowledge of the latest research into effective schools, how students learn and what makes effective teaching and learning.
Significant aspects of Carrum Downs Secondary College include:
• Each student is part of a pastoral care group which meet with their pastoral care teacher for 1 hour each week.
• In Years 7 – 9 core subjects are studied – Literacy, Numeracy, Science and Humanities.
• Teachers work in House teams.
• Teachers plan and work in small teams to develop curriculum.
• Our timetable is 4 days with 4 periods that are 67 minutes and Tuesdays we have 5 periods of 60 minute duration.
• Each teacher is trained in the use of Restorative Practices which is the preferred approach to finding solutions to problems and to resolve any conflict. For more details see: http://www.transformingconflict.org/Restorative_Approaches_and_Practices.htm
• Each House Leadership team manages staff and students.
Our College is always developing but has in place the structures, people, plans and curriculum to ensure that there are quality relationships between all College members and that our students are happy, safe and able to achieve extraordinary things.
